I'm Marie, a mum of 3, a huge foodie, previously a humanistic counsellor, turned coach and mentor, taking a mind body and soul approach to achieving a balanced life. I love natural living, simple things and believe in the amazing healing power of nature.
Despite doing my best to lead a wholesome way of life, sometimes, well, maybe quite often, I do use expletives to express myself. I also, like to secretly think of myself as unconventional in my thinking. I'm more than a bit into woo woo- Universal energy, law of attraction is my kinda thing.
I’ve had a pretty twisty and turny path through life, with more than my fair share of difficult life events. Following years of ill health, and a life-changing diagnosis of fibromyalgia, I reach a point where|I decided to take the bull by the horns and heal myself. I gave a two-fingered salute to conventional medicine and made it my mission to get well through a natural holistic approach.
Since 2012, I’ve been on my latest life adventure; a journey of holistic healing and all the eye opening stuff that comes with it. This holistic experience has formed my belief, that, gaining a greater level of self-awareness and taking a mind, body and soul approach to balancing your life, is the foundation of wellness and fulfilment. It has been this belief that has fired up my passion to become an advocate of holistic wellness.
My journey to date, has been a roller-coaster of a ride, there have been days that have completely floored me, literally, on the floor ugly crying, but alongside that, there have been days where my limitations have taught me how to be a better person, to re-evaluate my priorities and take greater joy in simpler things.
Thankfully, I have been able to reverse the condition and I have learnt to trust in the stability of my progress- and befriend my body once more. From this new perspective, I can now appreciate how those darker days have lead me to a brighter future.
There have been many things that changed within and for me during my experience. Along the way, I've learnt to accept that I've lost some of the old me, but as it turns out, that hasn't been such a bad thing after all.
Now, I see that the very thing that once brought my world crashing down is the thing I am most grateful for. It has gifted me so many opportunities to rebuild my life in a better way.
On my journey, I have met so many fabulous, inspirational, amazing and compassionate people. I discovered how positive and liberating it can be to re-invent yourself. Today, in many ways, I think I stand here a better version of myself with a much healthier perspective on life.
My experience of life-changing events has taught me a great deal, the lessons weren’t always easy and sometimes, it was hard to see the wood for the trees, but, I learnt that no matter how rough of a ride you have, no matter what life throws at you or how many times it brings you down, you can still move forward through the smallest of actions. It has been this awareness that formed the foundation of my mantra…
It may be life changing but it doesn't need to be life-defining – it’s how you choose to respond that defines you.
Although, I've gained so many positive things from my difficult experiences, I haven't become a' make lemonade out of lemons' type. If life hands me lemons, my first thought is always going to be - let's pop em in a gin and tonic, and work on this shit.
I don't have a lemonade factory but I do have this...
Top things I learnt from my experience:
- To take responsibility for myself.
- To trust my instincts.
- How resilient I am.
- How to become a blogger.
- That sometimes ,you just need to take a blind leap of faith.
- Mindset is key.
- Self- awareness is a gift and the foundation of self-development.
- You always have a choice as to how you will respond.
- There are opportunities for learning, growth and personal development in every life event or challenge.
